![]() ** Now if you'd asked about the best tier VII cruiser, I would have said the Fiji. But things are less clear cut at tier VIII. * She replaced the Kitakami, which was - and is - a one-trick pony meme ship. ![]() The good: If you like the higher tier (7-9) IJN Cruisers, you will enjoy playing the Atago. (I don't have the Congress and do not have an opinion on her strengths and weaknesses.) by deleted I took the plunge this morning and bought the Atago and I thought I'd share my thoughts on it for those of you who were thinking about acquiring it. I wouldn't go so far as to call the Atago the 'best' tier VIII cruiser in the game though that is more a question of personal playstyle.** The Mainz, which is mentioned by Captain Wulf Ace in post #8 above, is a far better damage dealer, for instance - but the Mainz doesn't work with stealth and high alpha damage as her main tools the way the Atago does. Her AA suite is nothing to write home about, but that goes for almost every ship in the game these days. Her main trump card is that she's got a Heal consumable, which gives her a lot more flexibility and staying power than most of her peers. Her artillery is a bit short-ranged these days, but that is somewhat offset by the small detection radius. ![]() ![]() She's got good stealth, decent speed, wicked torpedoes with good firing angles, and her guns are reliable damage dealers. I am happy to say that the Atago, as the first real tier VIII premium cruiser in the game, is still a good and solid performer.
